HAPPY FEET: THE BEAUTY OF FLIP-FLOPS

Once flip-flops would be viewed with derision, because they were seen as informal, pieces of footwear that could only be worn to certain informal locations like the beach or garden parties, at best. Many of us may still recall the fuss that was caused when some members of the North-western Women’s Lacrosse team appeared at the White House reception in thong sandals and critics derisively called them ‘flip-flops’. Now, that was only as 2005, but the humble flip-flop has come a ways since that time. This piece and others that follow are to show how flip-flops are not just acceptable, but favored attire for all kinds of formal occasions, such as weddings. 

Humble origins

It is true that flip-flops have originally not enjoyed an elevated status. This maybe as flip-flops are a style of thong sandal (though not the only kind) often constructed out of rubber, which is not a very fashionable substance, don’t you think? But, there are also several very classy thong sandals, which aren’t labeled flip-flops. By definition, so, flip-flops are a casual, slightly derided sandals that are easy to slip in and out of, and easy to transport.

On bridal demand

However, flip-flops are some of the most sought after footwear items today, and not only with the trendy people who wish to dress unusually. So much so that proof of the growing acceptance of these sandals is their favoritism as bridal footwear. A lot of women who have been through a conventional wedding will acknowledge the hours of agonizing pain that a bride must go through in her stylish, conventional, shiny bridal shoes or agonizing stilettos. Not only does she have to socialize with these on, but she must also smile throughout it all. It is not a wonder, then, that brides have welcomed the idea of wearing flip-flops to their weddings with a vengeance, especially if the wedding in regard is not particularly the walking down the aisle type.

Universal access

It is not to say that casual sandals would be undesirable at a church wedding, however it is correct that bridal flip-flops are most desirable at a beach wedding, perhaps, or one in a garden. But to whatever type of wedding {ceremony} venue these sandals are worn, flip-flops dp create a spontaneous atmosphere that encourages participants to relax and enjoy the wedding nuptials. In keeping with their desirability at weddings, bride flip-flops are now available in more fashionable avatars, so they can easily be worn to church weddings, with no concern. So if you are in the market bridal foot attire, don’t be at all surprised if the store employee suggests casual sandals set with gem stones, or decorated with sequins or beads. 

Price rules

Possibly the best thing about casual sandals, wedding or otherwise, is their very inexpensive price range. In fact, you can get rubber flip-flops for as little as a dollar, though you may wish to spend a bit more than that on your wedding shoes. If that is the case, you may have to spend about five dollars at least. Of course, as soon as designers see a good thing, its cost goes up, so you can really go all out on a pair of designer casual sandals, though it is purely a matter of personal taste.
