Planning Groom Speaches
They say hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I guess I never really knew just how important groom speeches were until my fiancé and I began obsessively planning the ‘BIG’ day! If the truth be known, I just kept putting it off until a week before the wedding, when I finally woke up and realised that groom wedding speeches were unavoidable. I started to panic big time.
My advice about that? Don’t make the same mistake I did. Give yourself plenty of time and don’t sweat it!
When you first start thinking about your groom speech it can seem like a really challenging task. There are so many other wedding issues to deal with, like the ceremony and vows that it is difficult to find the time to write an effective wedding speech let alone consider standing up in front of a audience and giving the performance of your life! As the date got closer and closer I tried to think of an inspirational, yet charming and hilarious groom’s wedding speech and it just wasn’t coming to me. So what I eventually decided to do was to sit down and just write some of the thoughts that popped into my head.
Now, believe me when I say that there are more efficient ways to plan a groom wedding toast, but this was great for kick starting my ideas.
At first it was difficult, but when I started using speech prompts and guides I soon started to jot down little bits of information about me and my bride. Where we met, how long we’ve been together, some of our most memorable moments – things like that. It really helped me to put into words the story of our relationship and what we’ve been through to get where we are now.
At this stage I think it’s best not to worry about the order or the content of what you’re writing (or any wedding speech jokes!). The best thing to do is make a start, any kind of start well in advance of the wedding. Just begin with the notes and you will soon find yourself on the path to the perfect groom speech.
